The Springfield Southeast Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Lanphier Lions at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Springfield Southeast and five for Lanphier.

Springfield Southeast's offense might be in the hot seat on Saturday considering what happened against Sacred Heart-Griffin on Friday. They were dealt a 65-0 loss at the hands of the Cyclones. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 395th, while the Cyclones are ranked 64th).

Meanwhile, Lanphier played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Quincy Notre Dame and fell 47-8. The Lions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-0.

Springfield Southeast's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Lanphier, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-5.

Everything came up roses for Springfield Southeast against Lanphier in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 56-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
