Softball Recap: Letcher County Central Beats Belfry for Their Third Straight Victory

Letcher County Central entered their tilt with Belfry on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 7-4 win over the Pirates. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Scarlett Stamper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Katie Combs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Collier, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Letcher County Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Belfry, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.

Letcher County Central has already played their next contest (against Harlan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Belfry, they will be playing at home against Clay County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Pirates are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
