Softball Preview: Sanderson Spartans vs. Wakefield Wolverines

Sanderson is 0-8 against Wakefield since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Sanderson Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Wakefield Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Sanderson beat Enloe 8-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Sanderson.

Lily Thorpe made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Thorpe has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in five consecutive pitching appearances. Thorpe was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Sloane Thorpe was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Wakefield put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Wake Forest with a sharp 9-0 victory.

Dayna Bland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just zero earned runs on two hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Brooke Masingale was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kensley Harrison, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Sanderson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6-1. As for Wakefield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster.
