Football Recap: Trabuco Hills Piles Up the Points Against Mission Viejo + How To Watch

Trabuco Hills barely beat Mission Viejo the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Diablos 34-0. Considering the Mustangs have won six matchups by more than 19 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Trabuco Hills' victory came down to the chemistry between Ellie Tapper and her top target Emma Ortiz. Tapper threw for 209 yards and three TDs while Ortiz picked up 91 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Ortiz also hauled in two receiving touchdowns, which is notable because Trabuco Hills is 8-1 when she posts at least two receiving touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Piper Kawanaka made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Trabuco Hills didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Mission Viejo to a completion percentage of just 43.8%. The Mustangs weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 69.2%.

Trabuco Hills didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Kawanaka led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself. She got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Trabuco Hills has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.8 points on average over those games. As for Mission Viejo, they moved to 9-12 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Trabuco Hills will take on rival San Juan Hills at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mission Viejo is set to face off against their familiar foe El Toro at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Diablos 14.2, the Chargers 11.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
