Football Recap: Solanco Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Solanco had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They and the Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers were almost perfectly matched up, but the Golden Mules suffered a 45-44 loss. The Golden Mules lost against the Pioneers in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 35-9 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Solanco lost, don't look at Johnny Garcia. Despite the final result, he rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns. Garcia's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 111 rushing yards dating back to last season. Eric (Cook) Koch was in the mix as well, providing Solanco with two TDs.

Asher Jones was nothing short of spectacular for Lampeter-Strasburg: he rushed for 139 yards and one score, and also threw for 189 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Those 189 passing yards gave Jones a new career-high. Cole Lopez was Jones' top target, picking up 103 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Coming up, Solanco will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Octorara Area at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lampeter-Strasburg, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Warwick at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
