Basketball Recap: Baker Comes Up Short

Baker suffered their biggest loss since December 17, 2024 on Wednesday. They were outmatched by the Lone Pine Golden Eagles and fell 81-29. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Braves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 69-38 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Baker lost, don't look at Anthony Ortiz. Despite the final result, he posted 14 points and three steals. That was a full 48.3% of Baker's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lone Pine to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cristian Duran, who earned 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The game was Duran's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Guerra, who put up 12 points and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Baker and nudges their season record down to 9-9. As for Lone Pine, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Baker will head out to challenge Mojave at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Lone Pine, they will be playing at home against Owens Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Owens Valley has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with 12 straight defeats, while Lone Pine will come in with five straight victories.
