Basketball Preview: Northeastern Clinton Cougars vs. Peru Nighthawks
Northeastern Clinton is 10-0 against the Nighthawks since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Northeastern Clinton Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Peru Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
On Friday, Northeastern Clinton came up short against the Bobcats and fell 58-50. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Northeastern Clinton in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, Peru's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 74-48 defeat at the hands of Moriah. While losing is never fun, Peru can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 721st, while the Vikings are ranked 63rd).
Northeastern Clinton's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-8. As for Peru, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.
Northeastern Clinton beat the Nighthawks 56-46 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Does Northeastern Clinton have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Nighthawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
