Softball Game Preview: Whitewater Whippets vs. Delavan-Darien Comets

For the second straight game, Whitewater will face off against Delavan-Darien. The Whippets will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Comets at 5:00 p.m. Whitewater is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Whitewater's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Delavan-Darien with a sharp 12-0 win. The Whippets haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Marianna Kubicz and Paige Kollwelter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kubicz tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kollwelter pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. At the plate, Kubicz got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Kollwelter got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

In other batting news, Jennifer Gosh was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Schilt, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Delavan-Darien is on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-19. As for Whitewater, their win bumped their record up to 10-11.
