The Wharton Wildcats will challenge the Sickles Gryphons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Wharton is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 15-4 margin over Chamberlain. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Storm recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Willa Soorus looked comfortable as she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Adriana Cadicamo, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Skylah Stephens was another key player, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one triple.
Wharton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chamberlain only posted an OBP of .409.
Meanwhile, Sickles had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against Robinson on Tuesday as Sickles made off with a 10-4 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Gryphons have posted since April 6, 2024.
Zoe Mello made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Mello was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Taylor Morrissey and Lauren Larsen did most of the damage at the plate: Morrissey scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4, while Larsen went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Locicero, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Everything went Wharton's way against Sickles in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Wharton made off with a 10-1 win. Does Wharton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sickles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
