New Oxford is 2-8 against Central York since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Colonials will square off against the Panthers at 4:15 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as New Oxford comes in on three and Central York on six.
New Oxford made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Northeastern, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Colonials blew past the Bobcats 17-2 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Colonials, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Miranda Leatherman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Leatherman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, New Oxford got a big performance out of Isabelle Donnelly, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Maura Shirk, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
New Oxford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeastern only posted an OBP of .308.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Central York faced off against Red Lion on Wednesday. The Panthers came out on top against the Lions by a score of 8-3.
Elizabeth Ferrell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Shaffer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Weigle, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
New Oxford's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Central York, their record is now 7-2.
New Oxford skirted past Central York 10-9 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colonials since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
