West Washington is 0-3 against Floyd Central since March of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Senators will challenge the Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Floyd Central will be up against a hot West Washington team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. The Senators were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over Mitchell on Monday.
West Washington let Alaina Schmidt and Macy Lowery run wild. Schmidt went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple, while Lowery went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Schmidt has posted since back in April. Julia Houchin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
West Washington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Floyd Central never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Madison with a sharp 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Highlanders in their matchups with the Cubs: they've now won eight in a row.
Emmy Miller looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aubrey Duckworth was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kaeden Stewart, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
West Washington's record now sits at 14-3. As for Floyd Central, their record is now 20-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Washington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Floyd Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
West Washington might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Floyd Central when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Senators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
