The Great Bridge Wildcats will head out to challenge the Nansemond River Warriors at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Great Bridge's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Nansemond River's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Great Bridge came out on top against Currituck County on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Wildcats took their match against the Knights 9-5.

Bailey Bliven spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on LB Scott, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hannah Ferrell, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Nansemond River won against Manor two weeks ago with 18 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again two weeks ago. The Warriors blew past King's Fork 18-5. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won three contests by 13 runs or more so far this season.
Logan Greenwood made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Greenwood was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Demetria Burton was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Madyx Fiero was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Nansemond River lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Great Bridge is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Nansemond River, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Great Bridge hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Nansemond River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Great Bridge took their win against Nansemond River when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
