The Hialeah Gardens Gladiators are taking a road trip to square off against the South Dade Buccaneers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Hialeah Gardens is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Last Wednesday, Hialeah Gardens came up short against Braddock and fell 8-4.
Delania Aleman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Emily Garcia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Meanwhile, South Dade waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Lightning with a sharp 22-1 win. Considering the Buccaneers have won nine matchups by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
B. Cuellar made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, A. Guedes was a standout: she scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. A. Zamora also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
South Dade was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
South Dade's record is now 9-7. As for Hialeah Gardens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hialeah Gardens has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Dade struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
