Softball Recap: Otay Ranch Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Otay Ranch barely beat Mar Vista the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Mariners on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Mariners: they've now won four in a row.

Victoria Resendez tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Kalina Sangalang and Itzel Soto did most of the damage at the plate: Sangalang scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Soto went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI Soto has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Avah Gonzales, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Otay Ranch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Otay Ranch pushed their record up to 8-9-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Mar Vista, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-11.

Looking ahead, Otay Ranch will challenge Olympian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mar Vista, they will face off against Helix at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mariners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Highlanders have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
