2A-2 Region IV District 14 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Schulenburg's Jyron McKenzie rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A-2 Region IV District 14 this season in his game against Flatonia last week. McKenzie scampered for 73 yards on the play and finished with 140 on the day as his team beat the Bulldogs.
Johnson City moved up to 1,025 from 1,117 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of a 14-13 win over Center Point.
Blanco's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sam Isenberg threw for 200 and three touchdowns and Quinn Dillard had 83 yards receiving. On the ground Tim Goodman chipped in 153 yards. Alex Palos helped Blanco's passing attack out by catching one ball for 47 yards.
Schulenburg's Ross Bludau and Jeffrey Lara have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Bludau has thrown for 761 yards this season, while Lara, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 16 catches for 443 yards. The Panthers' Goodman leads the league in rushing yards with 416.
A big matchup in 2A-2 Region IV District 14 this week will be when Tommy Bludau's team takes on Johnson City. As it stands, the Shorthorns are in third, while Brent Harris's team is in sixth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Schulenburg takes on the Eagles. The Shorthorns have allowed 64 points this season, while Johnson City has given up 80. Schulenburg allowed 14 points last week as it beat Flatonia.
Rogers extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mart, 84-58. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Eagles.
