Baseball Game Preview: Marshall Eagles vs. Heritage Christian Warriors

The Marshall Eagles will face off against the Heritage Christian Warriors at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.

Marshall is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Santa Fe a 1-0 shutout.

Not much got past Caleb Thatcher, who gave up just six hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Santa Fe off the board. Thatcher has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Marshall's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Pandullo, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Heritage Christian earned a 7-3 win over Montebello on Thursday.

Cullen Hirtensteiner was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Hirtensteiner was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christian Boldt, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Heritage Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Heritage Christian's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-8-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Marshall, their victory bumped their record up to 19-6-1.
