Basketball Recap: Murphy's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

If Murphy was feeling good fresh off their 99-37 takedown of Blue Ridge Early College last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Murphy Bulldogs lost 81-61 to the Gilmer Bobcats on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now lost four in a row.

Murphy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cale Harger, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds. Bradey Golden was another key player, putting up 13 points and six boards.

Jd Taylor was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 45 points and nine rebounds for Gilmer. That makes it four consecutive games in which Taylor has scored at least a third of Gilmer's points. Another player making a difference was Keegen Bryant, who posted 18 points and five boards.

Murphy's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5. As for Gilmer, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-9 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Murphy has already played their next contest (against Cherokee), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Gilmer Bobcats challenge the Ridgeland Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilmer is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.1 points per game this season.
