Softball Recap: Southwest Takes a Loss

Southwest fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against McCollum on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 3-2. The Dragons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cowboys earlier this season, when they won 9-2.

Sienna Diaz spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Tommie Betancourt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played.

With the loss, Southwest broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-9. As for McCollum, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5.

Coming up, Southwest will head out to take on Seguin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Dragons 3.2, the Matadors 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for McCollum, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 16-0 win against Edison on the 24th.
