Soccer Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Despite a strong season so far, Newton has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They lost 3-0 to the Lincoln Railsplitters on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Newton came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while Lincoln are ranked 394th).

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 13-4-1. As for Lincoln, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-13.

Newton wasted no time getting back out on the pitch and has already played their next contest, a 1-1 draw against Richland County on the 4th. As for Lincoln, they also didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next match, a 4-0 loss against Mattoon on the 4th.
