Softball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is St. Helena's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

St. Helena won against Salesian College Preparatory last Wednesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. Everything went the Saints' way against the Cloverdale Eagles as they made off with an 11-1 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Saints have posted against the Eagles since April 1, 2022.

Tahlia Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ada Blanton and Ellie Carmichael did most of the damage at the plate: Blanton went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Carmichael scored two runs while going 1-for-3. What's more, Carmichael posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Caelyn Farrell also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

St. Helena has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Cloverdale fell to 9-1.

St. Helena and Cloverdale should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Saints will challenge Kelseyville at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (345 vs. 954). Meanwhile, Cloverdale (ranked 135th) will meet Clear Lake (ranked 594th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
