Softball Recap: St. Joseph Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Victory

St. Joseph faced New Canaan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Cadets won by a run and slipped past the Rams 2-1. Winning may never get old, but the Cadets sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Katie Dzialo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gina Coppola, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

St. Joseph's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for New Canaan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-4 record this season.

St. Joseph will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Darien at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cadets 1.1, the Blue Wave 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. New Canaan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
