Softball Recap: South Laurel Comes Up Short

After flying high against Jackson County last Friday, South Laurel came back down to earth. The Cardinals fell just short of the Boyle County Rebels by a score of 5-4 on Monday. The Cardinals' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Kenzie Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Skye Lawson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Bailey Frazier was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

South Laurel's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Boyle County, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6.

Coming up, South Laurel will challenge Williamsburg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals are facing the Yellow Jackets at the right time seeing as the Yellow Jackets are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Boyle County, they will square off against Estill County at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Engineers will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Rebels surely won't give up without a fight.
