Basketball Game Preview: Head-Royce Jayhawks vs. Lick-Wilmerding Tigers

The Head-Royce Jayhawks will be taking part in a tournament against the Lick-Wilmerding Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Head-Royce's tournament run continued when they took on East Union on Saturday. Head-Royce snuck past East Union with a 60-55 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jayhawks.

Meanwhile, Lick-Wilmerding came tearing into Saturday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 54-41 win over the Warriors. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Warriors are ranked 542nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Head-Royce's victory was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.1 points per game. As for Lick-Wilmerding, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.

Head-Royce beat Lick-Wilmerding 39-29 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Will Head-Royce repeat their success, or does Lick-Wilmerding have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
