Softball Game Preview: Mission San Jose Warriors vs. Mt. Eden Monarchs

Mission San Jose is 0-4 against Mt. Eden since March of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Mission San Jose Warriors will face off against the Mt. Eden Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Mission San Jose is leaving town to face Mt. Eden after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Mission San Jose lost 13-3 to St. Joseph Notre Dame back in February.

Anjali Singh made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aria Gokani, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Mt. Eden fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Kennedy on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 8-7.

Annelise Burgos spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She also tossed two walks, marking her first of the season.

At the plate, Jasmine Cruz and Kealani Temoche did some serious damage despite the final result: Cruz scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-6, while Temoche went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. What's more, Cruz posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Amaris Ruiz also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Mission San Jose suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Mt. Eden in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Mission San Jose avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
