Baseball Game Preview: Brewer Witches vs. Messalonskee Eagles

The Brewer Witches are taking a road trip to face off against the Messalonskee Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Brewer's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Messalonskee's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Brewer is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Brunswick, who was ranked 14th at the time (Brewer was ranked 24th). The Witches fell just short of the Dragons by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Messalonskee got the win against Nokomis on Friday by a conclusive 9-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Sean Achorn and Ty Bernier did most of the damage at the plate: Achorn went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Bernier went 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run was Bernier's first of the season. Logan Baron was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Messalonskee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nokomis only posted a batting average of .148.

Messalonskee pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Brewer, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
