Basketball Recap: Broaddus Starts Season with Victory Against Avinger

Broaddus had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They breezed past the Avinger Indians to the tune of 77-20 on Friday. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 61-12 by the end of the third, a deficit the Indians had no chance of recovering from.

Broaddus' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kingston Sanders, who shot 72% from the field to rack up 37 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Those 37 points gave Sanders a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daniel Pappas, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds.

Broaddus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Broaddus has already played their next matchup, a 68-31 loss against Chireno on the 18th. As for Avinger, they will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Harmony at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
