Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hays). They really took it to the Cedar Creek Eagles for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-7 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hays to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tacoma Ames, who threw for 160 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 passes. Gabriel Peach helped Ames out on the ground, rushing for 96 yards and one score on only five carries.
Hays was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 254 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 246 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Hays' defense and their five sacks. Leading the way was Santiago Navea with two. Hays received some extra help from Joseph Cazares, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Hays' record now sits at 3-1. As for Cedar Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Coincidentally, Hays and Cedar Creek will both be playing Lockhart the next time they take the field. The Eagles will host the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Hawks will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
