Baseball Game Preview: Perry Pumas vs. Higley Knights

The Perry Pumas will head out on the road to face off against the Higley Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Perry picked up another tournament win on Thursday. They put the hurt on Arcadia with a sharp 13-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Pumas in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won four in a row.

Brock Reichwein looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.

At the plate, Luke Calendo was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Andrew Hover was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

Perry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Higley was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Notre Dame Prep.

Jet Gonzalez tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits.

On the hitting side, Higley's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Luke Joslyn, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Perry's record now sits at 2-0. As for Higley, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Perry came up short against Higley when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 7-2. Can Perry avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
