Basketball Recap: Southwestern Skates Past Mccreary Central with Ease

Southwestern had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 62-12 victory over the McCreary Central Raiders. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 27 points or more this season.

Leading Southwestern to victory were Mckaila Monroe and Jaelyn Dye. Monroe almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds, while Dye posted eight points along with six assists and five steals. The dominant performance gave Dye a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Williams, who put up nine points.

Southwestern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Southwestern now has a winning record of 7-6. As for McCreary Central, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-6.

Southwestern will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Wayne County at 6:00 p.m. As for McCreary Central, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Barbourville at 7:30 p.m. on January 14th.
