Softball Game Preview: Laurel Hill Hoboes vs. Florala Wildcats

The Laurel Hill Hoboes will head out to take on the Florala Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Laurel Hill's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three games, but Tuesday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.

Laurel Hill came up short against Baker on Thursday, falling 16-1.

Laurel Hill saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nevaeh Langford, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Florala). They blew past Samson 20-6 two weeks ago. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Paige Musso made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Skyler Murdock was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Maci Blount was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.

Florala was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Samson only posted a batting average of .214.

Florala has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. Laurel Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Laurel Hill might still be hurting after the 21-5 loss they got from Florala in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Laurel Hill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
