Softball Game Preview: Corsicana Tigers vs. Kaufman Lions

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Corsicana Tigers challenge Kaufman Lions at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Corsicana has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Corsicana managed to slip by Midlothian Heritage the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Corsicana lost 20-2 to Midlothian Heritage on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, Kaufman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Red Oak, falling 15-4.

Bella Phiffer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

Phiffer wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Kaufman lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Kaufman's loss dropped their record down to 5-7-2. As for Corsicana, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8-1 record this season.

Corsicana couldn't quite finish off Kaufman in their previous matchup back in February of 2015 and fell 3-1. Can Corsicana avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
