Softball Preview: Viola Longhorns vs. West Side Eagles
Viola is 3-0 against West Side since May of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Viola Longhorns will head out on the road to challenge the West Side Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, while Viola put up plenty of runs, the same can't be said for Rural Special. Viola beat Rural Special by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 22-0. The victory was familiar territory for Viola who now have three in a row.
Meanwhile, West Side made easy work of Hillcrest on Thursday and carried off a 19-1 win.
Lacy Baker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (she also only allowed one walk). Baker was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Sam Corpier and Eden Murphree did most of the damage at the plate: Corpier went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Murphree went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and four RBI. Murphree is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lexi England, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Viola has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for West Side, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Everything went Viola's way against West Side in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 as Viola made off with a 12-1 win. Will Viola repeat their success, or does West Side have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
