Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop McNicholas Rockets vs. New Richmond Lions

The Archbishop McNicholas Rockets will take on the New Richmond Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Archbishop McNicholas has six straight victories, New Richmond has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Tuesday, Archbishop McNicholas earned a 9-5 win over Kings. That's two games straight that the Rockets have won by exactly four runs.

Ethan Childs looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jay Lackmeyer was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Connor Powderly, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Wyoming hit New Richmond with a four-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lions took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cowboys.

Lucas Sheppard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.

New Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Archbishop McNicholas, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7.
