Volleyball Recap: Ilija Wenz Key Part of a Team Effort in Black Knights Win

Rome Free Academy posted their biggest victory since February 20, 2024 on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Herkimer Magicians as the Rome Free Academy Black Knights made off with a 3-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Black Knights also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Rome Free Academy was: they took every set by at least 25 points. The final score came out to 25-0, 25-0, 25-0.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rome Free Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ilija Wenz, who had eight aces and three digs. The dominant performance gave Wenz a new career-high in aces. Jerry Flores-Pacheco was another key player, getting six aces and five digs.

Wenz wasn't the only good server: Rome Free Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 30 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in four consecutive matches.

Rome Free Academy's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Herkimer, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Rome Free Academy will face off against Westmoreland at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Rome Free Academy is facing Westmoreland at the right time seeing as Westmoreland is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Herkimer, they will square off against Chittenango at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Chittenango will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Herkimer surely won't give up without a fight.
