Basketball Game Preview: Penasco Panthers vs. Mesa Vista Trojans

The Penasco Panthers will face off against the Mesa Vista Trojans at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Penasco took on McCurdy on Saturday. Penasco fell 54-44 to McCurdy.

Meanwhile, Mesa Vista had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 52-41 victory over the Wildcats.

Mesa Vista's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points per game. As for Penasco, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Penasco might still be hurting after the 58-34 loss they got from Mesa Vista in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mesa Vista's Tana Lopez, who went 8 for 18 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven boards and five steals.
