Softball Game Preview: Walker Wolverines vs. Rome Wolves

The Walker Wolverines will challenge the Rome Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rome took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Walker, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Walker got the win against Darlington by a conclusive 16-4. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 12 runs or more this season.

Reese Dege was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Kaila Figueiredo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Rome's offense. They lost 15-0 to Trion on Wednesday. The Wolves have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Walker has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Rome, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15.

Rome's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Walker hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Rome, though, as they've only averaged .171. Will they be able to contain Walker's hitters?

Walker beat Rome 8-5 in their previous meeting back in August of 2015. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
