Baseball Game Preview: Evergreen Park Mustangs vs. Lisle Lions

The Evergreen Park Mustangs will take on the Lisle Lions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Evergreen Park and Kennedy, and Evergreen Park kept the tradition alive. Evergreen Park was the clear victor by a 19-3 margin over Kennedy on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Crusaders: they've now won six in a row.

Rowan Smyth made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yarim Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carlos Flores, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Evergreen Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only posted an OBP of .368.

Meanwhile, Lisle's season-opener on Tuesday wasn't quite what the team was looking for considering the end result. They and Westmont finished up their match with a 1-1 draw.

Everything went Evergreen Park's way against Lisle in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Evergreen Park made off with a 13-0 win. Will Evergreen Park repeat their success, or does Lisle has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
