Basketball Recap: Emerald Comes Up Short

Emerald was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 70-53 to the Piedmont Highlanders. While losing is never fun, the Aerouants can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 976th, while the Highlanders are ranked 191st).

Despite the loss, Emerald saw an underclassman step up: freshman Alex Lin dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Lin. The team also got some help courtesy of Akshat Agarwal, who posted seven points.

Emerald's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Piedmont, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Emerald won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Kennedy at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Piedmont, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on McKinleyville at 2:00 p.m. on January 3, 2026.
