Softball Recap: Peninsula Takes a Loss

Peninsula suffered their closest defeat since April 19, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of the San Pedro Pirates by a score of 5-3. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in March of 2019.

Angel Wang spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Emily Gonzalez and Frances Toman did some serious damage despite the final result: Gonzalez scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Toman scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Peninsula has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. The victory made it two in a row for San Pedro and bumps their season record up to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Peninsula will challenge Mira Costa at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Peninsula is facing Mira Costa at the right time seeing as Mira Costa is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for San Pedro, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 20-1 win against Narbonne on the 27th.
