Lorena took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Gatesville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Lorena narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Gatesville 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Leopards have posted since February 22nd.

Gabby Gomez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, Lorena's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Davis, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Lorena pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Gatesville, they moved to 17-8-1 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lorena will take on rival China Spring at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Gatesville is set to square off against their familiar foe Robinson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Gatesville 2.8, Robinson 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
