Basketball Recap: Erie Takes a Loss

On Tuesday, the Erie Red Devils came up short against the Iola Mustangs and fell 60-51.

When it comes to explaining why Erie lost, don't look at Reid Duff. Despite the final result, he went 11-for-26 on his way to 31 points and six rebounds. That was a full 60.8% of Erie's points, marking the eighth time in a row Duff has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Michael Richenburg, who put up ten points and five boards.

Cortland Carson was his usual excellent self, shooting 46% from the field to rack up 27 points and six rebounds for Iola. That makes it five consecutive games in which Carson has scored at least a third of Iola's points. Lucas Maier was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

Erie's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Iola, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-12 record this season.

Erie has already played their next matchup, a 41-30 defeat against St. Mary's-Colgan on the 27th. As for Iola, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-59 victory against Riverton on the 28th.
