Volleyball Recap: Oxford Academy Comes Up Short

Oxford Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Salesian Mustangs.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Oxford Academy sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 27-25.

Maxton Frieda paced Oxford Academy's offense, picking up four kills. Frieda got some help from Matthew Dinh and his five assists. Dawson Nguyen` controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Oxford Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Salesian, they moved to 3-9 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Coming up, Oxford Academy will head out on the road to face off against La Quinta at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Salesian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Paul at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
