Basketball Game Preview: St. Edward Eagles vs. St. Ignatius Wildcats

The St. Edward Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the St. Ignatius Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Edward has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Saturday, St. Edward earned an 84-72 win over Villa Angela-St. Joseph. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Vikings are ranked 146th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, St. Ignatius entered their tilt with Richmond Heights on Tuesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They managed a 79-75 victory over the Spartans.

St. Ignatius pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.7 points per game. As for St. Edward, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

St. Edward might still be hurting after the 90-67 loss they got from St. Ignatius in their previous meeting back in January. Can St. Edward avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
