Recap: Alice Coyotes vs. Gregory-Portland Wildcats
It was a good run, but the Alice Coyotes unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. Their rough 70-49 defeat to Gregory-Portland might stick with them for a while. Alice has not had much luck with Gregory-Portland recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Alice's loss came despite strong showings from Devon Barrera and Calvin Villanueva. Barrera scored 20 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals, while Villanueva scored 18 points. Villanueva scored a full 36.7% of Alice's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mason Trevino was another key contributor, scoring 3 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Alice's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Gregory-Portland, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alice's road trip will continue as they head out to face London at 7:30 p.m. on December 5th. London will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 988th, while Alice is ranked 403rd). As for Gregory-Portland, they will head out on the road to face off against West Oso at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.
