No. 3 Oak Hill Academy takes Bass Pro title for third time in four years

Bass Pro champs get a crack at No. 2 University on Monday.

For the third time in four years, high school basketball juggernaut Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) is the king of the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions.

In front of 10,689 fans at JQH Arena in Springfield, Mo., the No. 3-ranked Warriors beat No. 21 La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.) 78-70 to capture the tournament title.

Behind unrelated Keyontae Johnson (24 points) and Keldon Johnson (23 points, 10 rebounds), Oak Hill Academy led by as many as 18 points in the third quarter and was never really in trouble despite a fourth-quarter surge by La Lumiere. Kansas-bound big man David McCormack contributed 12 points for the winners while Oregon signee Will Richardson added 11 points and seven assists.

Junior forward Isaiah Stewart led the way for La Lumiere, recording 23 points and eight rebounds.

Under 1,000-game winner Steve Smith, the Warriors (27-0) also captured Bass Pro titles in 2015 behind tourney MVP Dwayne Bacon and 2016 on a dramatic buzzer beater from Ty'Shon Alexander.

Oak Hill Academy gets another opportunity to enhance its resume Monday at the Spalding Hoophall Classic in Massachusetts against No. 2 University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).



Third-place game: In a battle of defending state champions, Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, Tenn.) beat Webster Groves (Mo.) 63-60 for the third place trophy in Springfield. Five-star point guard prospect Darius Garland, a Vanderbilt signee, poured in 34 points for Brentwood Academy (12-4).
