Avon is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 24-5 margin over Eastern Hancock on Saturday. With that victory, the Orioles brought their scoring average up to 8 runs per game.
Avon got a massive performance out of Zoey Chavez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Chavez has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kayla Pickering, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Avon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Franklin Central got the win against Jennings County on Saturday by a conclusive 14-4. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Flashes this season.
Sarah Miller was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. August Coons was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Avon's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Franklin Central, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Franklin Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Avon has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Franklin Central, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Avon's sizable advantage in that area, the Flashes will need to find a way to close that gap.
Avon came out on top in a nail-biter against Franklin Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Orioles repeat their success, or do the Flashes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
