Basketball Game Preview: Lakewood Gators vs. Wilson Tigers

Lakewood is 0-3 against Wilson since February of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Lakewood Gators will host the Wilson Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Lakewood came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were beaten by Lower Richland 64-35. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Diamond Hornets are ranked sixth).

Meanwhile, Wilson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Darlington. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Lakewood's defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Wilson, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.

Lakewood came up short against Wilson in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 47-35. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wilson's Logan Murray, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 17 rebounds. Now that Lakewood knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
