Basketball Recap: Izzy Stillabower's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Franklin Community over Mooresville

Franklin Community was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mooresville Pioneers. The game was a 23-23 toss-up at halftime, but the Grizzly Cubs couldn't quite close it out.

Franklin Community's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Izzy Stillabower, who posted 11 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Stillabower a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Maggie Doty, who put up ten points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Randee Garringer was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards for Mooresville. Garringer has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Shafer, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 15 points.

Franklin Community's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-11. As for Mooresville, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5.

Franklin Community will square off against Roncalli at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. As for Mooresville, they will take on Indian Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Indian Creek will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Mooresville surely won't give up without a fight.
