Grand Prairie is 1-8 against South Grand Prairie since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Gophers will head out on the road to square off against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Grand Prairie has given up an average of 51.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Grand Prairie is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Haltom on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Gophers were outmatched by the Buffalos and fell 61-20. The Gophers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-13.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Xavier Clinton and Vudrico Roberson. Roberson had a great game and gained 291 total yards and seven touchdowns. Meanwhile, Clinton was balling out in the loss, rushing for 125 yards and one TD, while also catching one touchdown.
Meanwhile, South Grand Prairie put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 53-0 win over Lamar. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Vikings are ranked 335th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Grand Prairie's win came from a few key players Grand Prairie will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Josiah Lucas, who rushed for 128 yards and four scores. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 110 rushing yards. Cade Wallace was in the mix too, providing South Grand Prairie with two touchdowns.
South Grand Prairie was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 191 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Grand Prairie's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for South Grand Prairie, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Clinton and Lucas. Clinton just won't slow down this season and has run in 6 touchdowns while averaging 129.6 rushing yards per game. Lucas has been a dominant force too and has run in 15 touchdowns while averaging 145.2 rushing yards per game.
Grand Prairie took a serious blow against South Grand Prairie in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 52-13. Can the Gophers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
