Softball Game Preview: Boyceville Bulldogs vs. Cumberland Beavers

The Boyceville Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the Cumberland Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Boyceville took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Mondovi, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Buffaloes 7-6. The game was the first time the Bulldogs have beaten the Buffaloes on their field since May 3, 2018.

Aubrey Malean made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Malean was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Boyceville let Paige Fenton and Lilly Lain run wild. Fenton scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Lain scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Talmage, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Cumberland and Ashland, and Cumberland kept the tradition alive. The Beavers blew past the Oredockers 10-2 on Thursday. The Beavers haven't had any issues with the Oredockers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Boyceville has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs this season. As for Cumberland, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
